ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington baseball opens its Fall World Series at Clay Gould Ballpark on Monday with first pitch slated for 2:30 p.m. The three-game series continues Wednesday with the finale Friday.
The Mavericks are split into two teams – Team Conkle and Team Haygood – for the Fall World Series. Troy Conkle is a volunteer assistant coach, while Brandon Haygood is a student assistant.
The Mavericks are coming off a 36-25 season that included Southland Conference championship and trip to the NCAA regionals. UT Arlington coach Darin Thomas returns six starting position players and five pitchers. Fifteen newcomers join the program.
Several Mavericks had outstanding summers before returning to UTA. Outfielder Matt Shortall and pitcher John Beck were selected to the CAL Summer League All-Star team. New Mexico transfer J.M. Twitchell led his Mankato Moondogs in hitting with a .351 batting average with 54 hits and seven home runs in 25 games.
Start times for Games 2 and 3 to be announced. Admission to the Fall World Series is free and open to all fans.
