College Park Center Grand Opening

UT Arlington President James Spaniolo told KTVT CBS 11 that yesterday marked a new era for the University in opening its College Park Center, a 7,000-seat arena that will not only be home to the basketball and volleyball teams but also serve as a community anchor for downtown Arlington.

An earlier CBS 11 report focused on College Park Center itself. The $78 million arena is the keystone in the 20-acre College Park District, which now forms the eastern edge of the UT Arlington campus. HKS Inc., the same architectural firm that designed Cowboys Stadium, designed the center.

A new era unfolded for UT Arlington as the University opened the College Park Center, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.

The new crown jewel of UT Arlington is now open, KXAS NBC 5 reported. That crown jewel is the College Park Center. The center gives the University a top-notch arena for their basketball and volleyball teams to play and greatly helps recruiting, an NBC DFW website report said.

The 7,000-seat College Park Center opened yesterday, The Scoop blog in The Dallas Morning News reported.

The four-sided Daktronics video display showed him shooting a basketball on the Texas Hall stage. In the video, his shot burst through the wall of Texas Hall, zoomed across campus, crashed through the ceiling of College Park Center, "cutting" a giant blue ribbon amid explosive special effects and cheers from the 6,228 in attendance.
