A New Maverick at the Helm
At the much anticipated ‘town hall meeting’ appearance of Dr. Vistasp Karbhari, sole finalist for the UT Arlington presidency, we were not disappointed. Dr. Karbhari was articulate and well-spoken, clearly demonstrating his understanding of the significance of his role as leader and president of our university. Dr. Karbhari was approachable and thoughtful as he entertained questions for the good part of an hour and then personally visited with every attendee at a private reception. He challenged requests for his vision for the future of our great university, stating that his plan is to listen, learn and understand, at which point a truly shared vision can be created.
Although he did admit that as he looks forward, in five years he is confident that we will leave no doubt that we are on the path to success in achieving Tier One status and stated that above all we must continue to maintain excellence and balance in both teaching and research.
“In true Maverick spirit, President Spaniolo did an amazing job at blazing his own path. I expect Karbhari to do the same. We are leaps and bounds ahead of where we were nine years ago. I feel Karbhari has the strength and drive to take us to the next level.” - Neer Patel '06, President of the Alumni Association National Board of Directors.
Dr. Karbhari believes we should maintain a balance, by thinking globally but acting locally. He understands that now is the time to re-envision the role of education and the philosophy of knowledge transfer and he talked of collaboration, innovation and intellectual discovery. The Alumni Association welcomes his leadership, particularly in the philanthropic arena and looks forward to a productive collaboration, one that will make all Mavericks proud.
